The Great Gatsby How-to: Men's Hair Cut

Written By Unknown on Monday, 13 May 2013 | 14:42

Independent hair and makeup artist Sherri Jessee shares her NAHA nominated entry in the Editorial category with her timely collection entitled, The New Gatsby. The 10 image anthology  was influenced by the much anticipated release of Baz Luhrmann’s 3-D movie inspired by F. Scott Fitgerald’s book, The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan.

The movie was released this week in movie theaters. 1920's style is a hot trend in beauty and fashion that is sure to remain for some time. The star of the book, movie, and her collection is the clean cut Jay Gatsby.

Sherri shares tips to creating an award winning look.

Using texturizing scissors to cut the entire shape, the top is left longer and fuller with the sides groomed in closer.
To ensure hair lies smoothly, work scissor over comb to remove density. A 32 toothed blending shear is perfect to remove bulk and create softness.

Clean up the perimeter. A perfectly designed swivel thumb shear allows for ease of cutting with no strain on the wrist.
To control the waves, apply a small amount of a light weight gel, distribute evenly, and comb into place.
For an alternate style, part hair down the middle and carve in deep waves using a fine comb and a strong holding gel.

Sherri Jessee is an internationally renowned hair and makeup artist with her work featured in hundreds of publications worldwide.
