As Seen in PBA Newletter!
Special Occasion Hair… And a Photo Shoot!
Tuesday, March 8th, 2011PRESENT AT PRECIOUS MOMENTS.
As stylists, we are present at some of the most important moments in a person’s life. Just think about it… we are there for weddings, proms, graduations, and even funerals. The salon is the first place a new mom goes on her first day out. We hear about it when our clients receive a promotion, become engaged, and get a divorce! We fix them up for job interviews, parties, romantic dates, and all sorts of special occasions. We are more than just stylists. We are image consultants viewing from behind the chair the most paramount moments of people’s lives.
PASSION FOR PHOTO SHOOTS.
With the upcoming wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, we decided to create a bridal-themed collection. We wanted to expand our salon’s portfolio with wedding and prom hair so our clients would know that those options were available to them. Having recently developed an amazing passion for doing hair and makeup for photo shoots, as a special treat, I flew the Sherri’s Hair Salon Team to New York City for a private makeup class with David Maderich and photo shoot with famed cover photographer, Roberto Ligresti.
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.
Realizing the importance of creating gorgeous styles to suit each individual, it is crucial to work both effectively and efficiently. Having just a few classic styles in your repertoire will allow you to pull off fantastic fashions for your clients most magnificent moments. I encourage stylists to attend hands-on classes for “special occasion hair”. (Look for more information on advanced seminars in future blogs!) The day before the shoot, I practiced on Amy Lauren’s hair (left). We took pictures to experiment with different angles to see how the camera would capture the texture. There is so much preparation that goes into a photo shoot; however, by the time we arrived at the shoot, it was all planned out.
PRESENT YOUR WORK FOR PUBLICATION.
After the shoot was all over and we were home, we anxiously awaited the arrival of the re-touched photos. Photographer Roberto Ligresti printed them up in lovely 11”x14” portfolio-sized photos. He also burned the high-resolution images to a disc to submit to magazine editors. You can see our full-page feature in the March issue ofBeauty LAUNCHPAD Magazine. The accompanying article shares some of our on-set tricks used to create the lovely looks. So far, we have been fortunate to secure a super online feature at HOT! by Hair’s How, and a 3-page spread in the STYLE SOURCE Magazine. From the joys of being there for our clients’ most special moments, to the excitement of session styling, to the rewards of seeing our work published, I can truly say, “We have the best job in the world!” Don’t you agree?
