Elesia Sade was recently awarded 1st Runner up in Miss Virginia Collegiate America and also won Miss Photogenic and the photo contest. I had the pleasure of working on her makeup and touching up her hair for the winning headshot. The photo was taken in an exclusive photo shoot with the wonderfully talented and world renowned photographer, Yvonne Taylor.

Elesia works as an advertising specialist at the United States Postal Service Headquarters. She is in school at Walden University pursuing a Ph.D. in public policy and hopes to work in government relations after obtaining her Ph.D. in 2015. She is also a member of the Washington Capitols Red Rockers, an award-winning, high-energy spirit squad that interacts with the crowd to ensure that all Caps fans have the ultimate game experience.
Allow me to share a few makeup tricks that I used while working with gorgeous Elesia for her award winning headshot.
Eyebrows.
Having great brows is essential and an area many women overlook in their beauty routine. This is the first place I work on when creating a great face for photography. If you have your brows done professionally, they will be easy for you to maintain. Tweeze any stray hairs and then perfect the shape using an angled brush and a matte shadow that corresponds with your brow color.
Shadow.
I love using this soft blending brush for eyeshadows. I have one I use to sweep lighter colors over the entire eyelid and one just for darker colors. The darker color is blended over the curve of the eyeball to create the illusion of added depth. The shades I used on Elesia were Crystaline and Coal.
Lashes.
When time allows, I always apply individual lashes. They look amazing and they feel so comfortable you can not even feel they are on. When in a time crunch, however, strip lashes will do fine. They usually come too long for most eyes, so it is important to trim the edges to fit your eyes. If you have trouble getting them on, you can cut the lashes and apply them in sections. For Elesia, I actually added an extra strip on the outer edges to make her eyes appear wider.
Liner.
I apply liner before the lashes very close to the lash line and smudge with my finger tip to blend. Next, after the lashes are applied and the adhesive is dry, I apply a creme based liner with a pointed brush. This waterproof formula goes on easy and is perfect for both a cat eye effect and a smokey eye look.

Contour.
To create the cheekbones we all wish we were born with is simple by using subtle contouring. For Elesia, I swept on a matte bronze shade with an angled brush in the hollows of her cheeks. Then I brushed a rosy coral shade from the apples of her cheeks toward the hairline and blended.
Using a pointed lip brush, I applied a pinkish-red lipstick to Elesia's lips. I carry a variety of lipsticks together and custom blend to get the desired color.
