ARTIST SESSION 6, Two Great Days
04/13/2011 04:36PM
We just wrapped up the best ARTIST SESSION ever! Ten fantastic hair designers from all over the United States and Canada came to New York to learn how to get involved in session work and use their amazing pictures to "Up Their Profiles."
Artist Session attendees with guest speaker KIM VO
As always, day one was chock full of great speakers including Jayne Morehouse on Public Relations, David Lopez on the actual nuts and bolts of session work, Russell Halley on finding an agent and we even had a visit for the actual RICKY, founder of famed session artist dream stores. Our own "exhibit A" and frequent ARTIST SESSION attendee, Sherri Jesse, offered tips on getting published internationally.
After learning more about how to choose a model, more than 60 models from top NY agencies showed up for our own casting where each artist selected a model for the actual photo session.
Day one ended with a super surprise FIELD TRIP! We met with Ted Gibson who gave us a tour of his iconic salon and shared more about celebrity hairdressing and why he gets $950 for a cut! I'm not spilling....but one of our artists even cried when she met TED!!!! He is our hero.
Day two, PHOTO SESSION DAY, was as magical as always. Most of the models showed up on time and our talented hair designers got busy. There was a minor interruption when KIM VO....yeah.... KIM VO... showed up to offer some words of encouragement and advise. Kim was in New York and had just wrapped up teaching 1000 professionals on the ART OF BLONDING. When he told us that the best part of being a celeb is the GOODY BAG, we just had to hand over the ARTIST SESSION GOODY BAG for him to pay with!
Oh, yeah...THE GOODY BAG!!!! Incredible. We would like to thank Jayne Morehouse for bringing an FHI HEAT flat iron for each attendee and Ricky for bringing a special collection of clips, combs and other accessories in a gift bag. On top of that, each bag contained:
BIOIONIC I TOOLS Style Winder curling iron
CHI Flat iron
GHD midnight collection mini blow dryer gift set
GLOBAL KERATIN brushes
MONROE BRUSHES (the teasing brush is everyone's fave)
SAM VILLA signature texturizing iron
SEDU blow dryer
The best comment came at the end of day 2 from one of Roberto's photo assistants. While he has participated in hundreds of fashion shoots, he had never been to one of Modern's sessions. "Wow," he said to me at the end of day 2. "I always wondered what the hair would look like if the hairdressers had as much time as they wanted. This is simply incredible...one of my favorite shoots ever!"
We can't wait to start sharing the finished images once cover photographer Roberto Ligresti is finished organizing. It will be worth the wait.
